ESSSE CAFF FOR AMBIENT
 |
A CONSISTENT SOCIAL COMMITMENT
In November 2002, ESSSE CAFF S.p.A. obtained Environment Management System certification according to ISO 14001 regulations integrated with the Quality Management System. Each year, environmental targets were set, and these have increasingly improved our performance with a view to safeguarding the environment. A monitoring plan was also set up, making it possible to periodically check the progress of environmental indicators and more particularly of air emissions, waste water discharges, energy consumption (water, electricity, natural gas), the production of waste, noise pollution etc. For our roasting, some of the most significant environmental impacts are, of course, emissions into the atmosphere. In recent years, the company has invested in modern technology in order to reduce the dispersion of particulate matter and other substances from the manufacturing process. Cyclones and sleeve filters were put into operation to trap particulates at all stages: from the loading of raw coffee, to the cooling of roasted coffee. A timely maintenance is performed on all equipment, with tangible results that translate into an overall reduction of more than 50% of emissions compared to the legal limit. The results can be seen in the attached graphs on atmospheric emissions in the production processes of Volatile Organic Compounds, Nitrogen Oxides, Sulphur Oxides and particulate matter, and it is clearly visible that the concentration is much lower than the internal set limit.
ATTACHMENTS
• AIR EMISSIONS - particulate matter (mg / Ncm)
• AIR EMISSIONS: Nitrogen Oxides (mg / Ncm)
• AIR EMISSIONS: Sulphur Oxides (mg / Ncm)
• AIR EMISSIONS: Volatile Organic Compounds (mg / Ncm)

WE ARE ALSO WORKING ON WASTE:
on the one hand by replacing the plastic film that contained packets of coffee with cardboard, with less impact to the environment because it is completely recyclable and more protective against heat, and secondly, by replacing the polystyrene used for packing coffee and cappuccino cups, again with cardboard. In addition to these important achievements, the company's commitment is to seek new materials and use technologies and processes with a low environmental impact and oriented toward the safety and health of the community.

ESSSE CAFF S.p.A. obtained the Certificate for the Management of the Environmental System for the following scope: "Design, development and production of roasted coffee through the steps of: storage and roasting of green coffee, chilling, storage and packaging of roasted coffee."
